Two-Gallon Highly-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, PA origin, third quarter 19th century, with ovoid body, rounded foot, and tooled collar, decorated with a two-stemmed flowering plant design extending around the sides of the pitcher. Spout decorated with brushed cobalt swags. This pitcher has characteristics of Remmey stoneware from Philadelphia and R.J. Grier stoneware from Chester County, PA. It is possible that Joseph Remmey, who is known to have worked at the Grier Pottery, made this example while working for Grier. 1 1/4" base chip and a small stone ping near base. H 13 7/8".
