Rope-Handled Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Elaborately Tooled Base, Ohio origin, circa 1850, baluster-form cooler with highly ovoid midsection, narrow opening at top, circular bung hole, and heavily-tooled, footed base. Decorated front and back with a brushed cobalt floral design typical of Midwestern stoneware. Large clay handles resembling twisted rope brushed over in cobalt slip, as is the bung hole. An exceptional and highly decorative form. Restoration around the very base of cooler's foot. 1/2" hole in underside. Four short lines from rim, measuring approximately 2", 1 1/2", 1 1/2", and 5/8". H 15 3/4".
