Extremely Rare and Important Stoneware Jug with Incised Sailing Ship Decoration, Stamped "P. CROSS / HARTFORD," Connecticut origin, circa 1805-1818, ovoid jug with tooled spout and heavily-ribbed handle, decorated with an incised design of a detailed sailing ship with flag, anchor, ratlines, and numerous sails, all highlighted with cobalt slip. Marked Peter Cross stoneware of any kind is considered rare in its own right. A truly remarkable example of early New England stoneware. 1" x 3/4" spout chip to left of handle. Otherwise as-made condition. H 14 3/8".
