Exceptional Redware Dog Bank with Vibrant Green Glaze and Applied Coleslaw Mane and Tail, attributed to George Wagner, Carbon County, PA, circa 1860, molded seated dog with applied clay "coleslaw" mane and tail, carved slot in back, and impressed facial details and locket. Incised detail to paws. Surface covered in a strong green glaze with brown highlights over a yellowish clay body. Clear lead overglaze. Remarkable condition and very appealing color make this bank one of the best Wagner examples we have seen. Near mint condition with in-the-firing kiln furniture marks on underside. H 6 1/4".
