Extremely Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Indian's Bust, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," circa 1880, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout and applied handle, decorated with a large cobalt design of an American Indian's bust with mohawk, exaggerated nose, and frowning open mouth bearing teeth. A highly desirable subject in American stoneware decoration. As-made condition with two glazed-over spout chips and a few in-the-firing contact marks on the side. H 16 1/2".
