Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "H. MYERS," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, straight-sided jar with tooled foot, rounded and tooled shoulder, and thin, semi-squared rim, decorated around the shoulder with a series of heavy cobalt swags. Made at merchant, Henry Myers, pottery under the management of Henry Remmey, Sr. This jar has an unusual impressed "F" within a sawtooth border above the maker's mark. We have seen this mark on a few other examples of Myers stoneware, but are unaware of its meaning. It is possible that it is the mark of a particular potter who worked for Myers, or that it represents a particular client. Base chips, some of which occurred in the firing. 4 1/2" hairline crack from rim. H 10".
