Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a crested bird with raised wings perched on a branch. An unusually-styled bird for Cowden & Wilcox stoneware. Some spots of fry to bird's face, tip of wing, and top of branch. Several chips to one handle. Small chip to opposite handle. Chip to exterior of rim above one handle. H 9 1/2".
