Rare Edgefield, S.C., Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Floral Decorations, attributed to Collin Rhodes, circa 1850, alkaline-glazed ovoid jar with handles, decorated front and back with detailed floral designs in kaolin slip. One side decorated with a plant with leaves, bearing two daisy-like flowers. The reverse side with a slightly different design of a plant with daisy-like flower and a second flower composed of numerous short trails. Incised under one handle with four slashes to indicate the capacity of the vessel. Excellent form and decoration. In-the-making hairlines on one side, some of which are barely visible on the interior. H 14 1/4".
