Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar with Cobalt Leaping Rabbit Decoration, attributed to Albany, NY, possibly R. O"Connell, circa 1860, straight-sided jar with rounded shoulder, tooled rim, and applied handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a leaping rabbit with spots and a striped neck. Rabbit is depicted leaping over several round, spotted objects, possibly bushes or cabbage plants, on a heavily slip-trailed ground. Slip-trailed cobalt two above decoration. Exceptional, vibrant cobalt color against a light, whitish background. Highly desirable figural decoration. Excellent condition with two small rim chips. Small handle chip and one small, in-the-making stone ping on opposite handle. H 11 1/4".
