Rare and Outstanding Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Starface Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS," New York State origin, circa 1860, narrow, slightly ovoid form with tooled shoulder and applied handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a central face with eight rays composed of numerous trails extending from it in a starburst pattern. Two script cobalt "6" "Ëœs above the decoration indicate the capacity. Additional slip-trailed lines highlight the maker"s mark. An exceptional example of this highly-prized Harrington design, slip-trailed in a dark and glossy cobalt against a light, cream-colored background.
