Very Rare, Large-Sized Redware Handled Cup with Cream Glaze, Stamped "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG," circa 1890, ovoid cup with pronounced foot, straight and wavy lines incised at shoulder, and heavily-ribbed handle, covered in an attractive, cream-colored slip with clear lead overglaze. Beautiful coloration, with areas of orange clay appearing in spots under the slip, or where the slip did not take. Interior with clear lead glaze. Impressed "S. BELL & SON / STRASBURG" beside handle. A very rare Bell redware form. Outstanding large size. This vessel appears too large to be used as something to drink out of. It may have been used as a mush cup. Small chips and minor wear. Height 4 3/4" ; Width (excluding handle) 5". .
