Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Bold Cobalt Fuschia Decoration, Stamped "HAMILTON / & CO. / Greensboro / PA," circa 1850, skillfully-potted, ovoid jar with incised lines at midsection, collar moldings, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with a large cobalt fuschia vine. Handle terminals brushed with large cobalt circles. Striking color. Produced by Leet Hamilton, some time after his arrival in Greensboro from Beaver, PA. An early Western Pennsylvania jar of excellent craftsmanship and great aesthetic appeal. Chips on interior of rim. Faint lines on underside. Height 14 3/4".
