Very Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "A. KEISTER & CO. / STRASBURG. VA.," circa 1850, ovoid pitcher with ribbed handle and heavily tooled collar, decorated with two crossed flowers with leafy stems. Collar decorated with swags. Handle terminals brushed with cobalt. Impressed boldly across the front with the maker"s mark of Adam Keister, along with a two-gallon capacity mark. Desirable form, stamped with one of the most highly sought after maker"s marks found on Shenandoah Valley pottery. Significant repair to collar. Repair to crack on left side of front of pitcher. Some bubbling to cobalt. Base chip. Height 13 1/2".
