Exceptional Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Spaniel Bank, New York State origin, circa 1860, molded Staffordshire-type figure of a spaniel with collar, chain, and locket, decorated all over with numerous cobalt dots and other cobalt highlights. Bank slot in underside. Few blue-decorated American stoneware spaniels have survived. The fact that this example was made as a bank makes it truly remarkable. Possibly Jordan or Lyons, NY. Portion of front leg reglued. Otherwise excellent condition. Height 9 3/8". Ex-Collection Bill Bertoia.
