Large Stoneware Jar with Incised and Blue-Filled Floral Decoration, Northeastern U.S., circa 1820, ovoid form with heavy shouldering incising and tab handles with blue highlights. Decorated front and back with a large daisy-like flower with leaves, filled in brilliant cobalt blue. Jar measures about three gallons. An elegant example of early American stoneware. Possibly Manhattan. Excellent condition with one rim chip, a few minor base chips, and light crazing near the base on one side. Height 11 1/8".
