Rare and Important Pint-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "ELIZ"TOWN-N.J," attributed to Keen Pruden, circa 1832, ovoid-form with tall collar and applied handles, stamped below the collar "ELIZ"TOWN-N.J" surrounded by cobalt dashes. Handle terminals decorated with cobalt, and reverse of jar decorated with a stylized cobalt flower head. Albany slip glazed interior. Made at the pottery of Keen Pruden, father of J.M. Pruden, in Elizabeth, NJ. Exceptional size and rare maker"s mark. Remarkable, mint condition. Height 5 1/4".
