Rare and Important Salt-Glazed Stoneware Pig Bottle with Cobalt Decoration, Signed Anna Pottery, 1888, pig bottle with spout at rear, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted map of Midwestern cities, rivers, and railroads. The side of the pig is incised "St. Louis the future Great / The most Reliable / Railroad and River Guide / With a little good old Bourbon in (arrow points to bottle spout) / By / Anna Pottery / 1888." Anatomically correct underside. Map includes: Miss River, Chester, G. Tower, M & O, Purcy, short line, Springfield, Bloomington, C & A RR, Topica, Rock Island, Sasalle, ICRR, Cairo, Anna, Carbondale, Duquoin, Tamaroa, Centralia, Odin, Tunnel Hill, P & AP, vincenes, Champaign, Kankakee, Pullman, Chicago the Corn City, Mound City, Cincinnati the Pork Packing City. Made at the pottery of Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick in Anna, Illinois. Minor chip on spout. Otherwise mint condition. Length 7 3/4".
