The story of Vermont stoneware is dominated by the titanic
Norton family, long considered one of the greatest producers of American stoneware. The beauty of the Nortons' work is on full display here, as is that of the relatively obscure Fenton & Hancock of St. Johnsbury--known for creating some extremely high level examples of American ceramic art. The work of the stoneware potters of Burlington, also a major production center, is likewise represented here.
