Lanier Meaders (1917-1998) is the most famous 20th century maker of
American face jugs. His work at our auctions is currently achieving new heights of value as his legacy constantly expands. Meaders became a celebrated American potter during his own lifetime and it can certainly be said that his artistry helped keep the American face jug alive in the public consciousness. The work of Lanier Meaders' parents, Cheever Meaders (1887-1967) and Arie Meaders (1897-1989), is also highly sought-after by collectors and museums. Here you will find works by all three of these important 20th century ceramicists, along with some examples by other family members.
