Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Northeastern U.S. origin, third quarter 19th century, a two-gallon jar with brushed floral decoration, stamped "F.A. PLAISTED & CO / GARDINER ME," paired with a smaller jar with brushed and slip-trailed floral decoration, stamped "CORTLAND," NY State origin. Plaisted jar with a long top-to-bottom crack from rim on reverse, forming an X on underside. This crack includes a small chip at shoulder on reverse. Additionally, a salt drip to reverse, chips to one handle, and a large rim chip on reverse. Cortland jar with two long, thin crack to front, a long diagonal Y-shaped crack to side, staining to surface, a rim chip, and two small chips to inner rim for lid. H (of taller) 9 3/4".
