Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated on the front with a large flowering plant motif. Reverse decorated with three conjoined leaves at shoulder. Impressed under one handle with B.C. MILBURN maker's mark and six-gallon capacity mark. Exceptional size with strong decoration. An approximately 12 1/2" long diagonal crack emanating from base below one handle, including a long diagonal crack extending from it horizontally at base on jar's front. Network of hairlines to underside. Rim chips. Three base chips. H 15".
