Exceptional Glazed Redware Mug, Stamped "BAECHER / WINCHESTER VA.," Anthony Bacher, Winchester, VA, circa 1880, flare-rimmed form coated in a copper-tinted slip overlain with marbled manganese and covered in a clear lead glaze. Impressed with Anthony Bacher maker's mark on underside. The finest Bacher mug that we have offered, this work features a lesser-seen, pastel green slip treatment and is potted in an unusually small size. A masterwork sugar bowl by Bacher, sold as lot 47 in Crocker Farm's July 21, 2012 auction, is the only other example of his work that we have offered featuring this highly-appealing color scheme. This mug survives in exemplary condition, difficult to find in this potter's work, with only minor wear. H 3 1/4" ; Diam. (at rim) 3 1/4".
