Rare Glazed Stoneware Tobacco Jar with Paper Label for "MRS. C.B. MILLER & CO., / No. 97 Columbia Street, New York," late 19th century, cylindrical form with tapered shoulder and flared rim, the surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. Front with original paper label depicting a Native-American holding tobacco leaves above a barrel, inscribed "BEST / VIRGI- / NIA.," along with the inscription, "FIRST QUALITY / MACCABOY SNUFF. / MANUFACTURED AND SOLD BY / MRS. C.B. MILLER & CO.. / No. 97 Columbia Street, New York. / Manufactory No. 5, Third District, State of New York." Side of jar with additional paper label for "NATIONAL TOBACCO WORKERS UNION." Remnants of another blue paper label include a "SERIES OF 1898" date. A 3/4" rim chip. Various damage to labels. H 5 1/2".
