Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "M. WOODRUFF / CORTLAND," NY State origin, circa 1867-1869, ovoid churn with flared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with two different brushed and slip-trailed floral motifs separated by scalloped lines. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A very large sealed spider crack to reverse extending to front, including a surface chip along the crack on reverse. A large chip and short surface crack to rim. A chip and wear to inner rim for lid. A chip to one handle. Some exfoliation to upper body. Hairlines to underside. H 16 1/4".
