Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with two tulips emanating from a leafy stem. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 7 1/2" Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse. A small chip to one handle and minor nick to opposite handle. Some surface staining. A small in-the-firing chip to underside at edge and a very minor chip to midsection of underside. H 11 1/4".
