Scarce Glazed Redware Butter Crock with Lid, Norwalk, Connecticut origin, circa 1840, cylindrical form with heavily-tooled shoulder and original lid with concentric bands, both with daubs of manganese over a dark reddish-orange ground. An unusual form in American redware, particularly with original lid. Crock with small base chips and wear to rim. Chip and minor wear to knob of lid. 2" loss to flange on underside, along with a hairline and small chips to flange. Edge chips to lid. D 8" ; H (including lid) 5 1/2".
