Stoneware Presentation Pipe Holder, Jackson Square Pottery, Baltimore, circa 1880, inscribed, "Freundschaft Stamm / No. 200 ~ U.O.R.M. / Presented by Jackson Square Pottery." Straight-sided form with ten hollow clay tubes circling the base, decorated with two cobalt bands; cobalt covering the tubes, as well. Inscription refers to the Independent Order of Red Men ("Unabhaengigen Ordens Der Rothmanner" in German), a fraternal organization that based its practices on Native American culture. Excellent condition with a few minor chips. Height 7".
