Very Rare and Important Large-Sized Redware Jar with Initials "S. G.," Dated 1784, Southeastern U.S. Origin, possibly Moravian, highly ovoid form profusely decorated on all sides with a series of yellow and green dots, short, wavy lines, and stylized flowerheads. Large, script letters "S. G." over the date "1784" in green and yellow slip. Very large applied handles with notched edges, decorated on top and edges in green and yellow slip. The letter "B" beneath each handle also in yellow and green slip. Wedge broken out at rim with 3" crack extending down. Otherwise normal wear on rim. Chipping around base. A few spots of glaze wear on body of jar. Height 13 1/2" ; Circumference 41".
