Rare Heavily-Decorated Stoneware Chicken Waterer, Philadelphia Origin, circa 1850, straight-sided form with rounded top and tall finial, with attached handles and open, hooded watering section. Decorated under the handles and on the reverse with large, stemmed tulips. Decorated around the watering section with leafy swags. Impressed "O O" above watering area, highlighted in cobalt. (A similarly thrown and decorated waterer, stamped with Philadelphia potter Thomas Haig"s maker"s mark bears the same "O O" impression.) This example was probably made by Haig, or possibly at the Remmey Pottery. A rare stoneware form with excellent decoration and color. Finial reglued. Chip to top of finial. Minor chips to rim of watering section. Height 8 1/2".
